Upcoming Shabbat Dinner:

  • We Stand Together Shabbat

    Friday, September 19, 2025

    14th Street Y | 344 E 14th Street, NYC

Parashat Nitzavim reminds us that we are all standing together leaders and elders, children and water-carriers, those present and those yet to come. Every voice matters, no one is outside the circle.

At 14Y Selah, we take this to heart. Standing together means honoring every story, showing up in joy and struggle, and choosing life as a community.

Join us for a night of song, conversation, and connection as we welcome Shabbat and live into the vision of wholeness found in belonging. Come as you are. There’s space for you here.

  • THE BLESSING OF CHOICE

    🗓 Friday, August 22, 2025 | 🕖 7:00–9:30 PM | 📍14th Street Y

Parashat Re’eh opens with a bold proclamation:
    רְאֵה אָנֹכִי נֹתֵן לִפְנֵיכֶם הַיּוֹם בְּרָכָה וּקְלָלָה
“See, I set before you today a blessing and a curse.”
    (Devarim 11:26)

But this isn’t a threat. It’s an invitation. The Torah doesn’t ask us to choose perfectly; it asks us to choose with open eyes. To be present. To see clearly. To recognize that even the hardest moments hold the possibility of a sacred decision.

In recovery and in life, choice isn’t always easy. Sometimes we’re choosing between two painful paths. Sometimes we’re choosing to try again. To show up. To begin. To repair. To stay. At 14Y Selah, we honor those choices. We believe small, brave steps matter. Healing doesn’t move in a straight line, and even the quietest moment of choosing connection, compassion, or breath is something sacred.

This Shabbat, we’ll explore what it means to choose blessing, not by denying our pain, but by making space for it. Even in the wilderness, we can turn toward one another. Toward life. Toward love. Toward something more whole.

We’ll share a warm Shabbat meal, explore the themes of Parashat Re’eh through reflection and conversation, and hold space for whatever you are carrying. This is a place to rest, connect, and feel seen.

You don’t have to be in recovery to attend. You don’t have to have the right words or feel totally okay. Just come as you are. There’s space for you here.

    Substance-free. Spirit-filled. All are welcome.

  • The Journey Home Shabbat

    🗓 Friday, July 25, 2025 | 🕖 7:00–9:30 PM | 📍14th Street Y

Parashat Masei closes Sefer Bamidbar by naming the 42 stops the Israelites made in the wilderness. Each one is listed, moments of triumph, loss, longing, and discovery. None are skipped over. Nothing is erased.

The Torah teaches us something radical here: our journey is sacred, not just the destination. Every place we’ve been matters. Even the messy, quiet, or painful chapters are worthy of being remembered.

As we step into Shabbat together, we’ll explore this idea, what do we carry with us from the places we’ve been? What burdens are ready to be set down? And what blessings have quietly accompanied us all along the way?

Join us for a night of community, reflection, and rest. We’ll share a warm Shabbat meal, sing together, and hold space for the journeys we’re still on, individually and as a collective.

Whether you feel like you’re standing at a crossroads or just pausing for breath, you are welcome here.

    Substance-free. Spirit-filled. All are welcome.

  • PRIDE SHABBAT

Pride Shabbat Dinner with 14Y Selah

    🗓 Friday, June 27, 2025 | 🕖 7:00–10:00 PM | 📍14th Street Y

As part of this year’s Pride Shabbat, 14Y Selah invites you to an evening that expands what Jewish tradition can look and feel like, especially for those who’ve long felt on the margins.

This is not our usual Selah Shabbat dinner. We’ll begin the evening with vibrant communal programming and performances from across 14Y Jewish Life, LABA, Lab/Shul, and SMQN, lifting up LGBTQ+ voices and creativity. After the shared celebration, we’ll move into a more intimate space to share a meal grounded in the spirit of recovery, resilience, and sacred togetherness.

Come ready for an evening of new Jewish traditions, rituals and reflections born from people who have so often felt othered, and who are now claiming space to belong.

    Substance-free. Spirit-filled. All are welcome.

  • Connection in Harmony

    May 2, 2025

    Brooklyn

Join us for Connection in Harmony, a special Selah-bration where we honor transitions and transformations. Together, we’ll celebrate the legacy of our founding director Arielle, and uplift a beloved community member marking three years of sobriety.

With candlelight, ritual, nourishing food, and conversation that matters, we create space to bring our full selves—where recovery, Jewish tradition, and community meet at one table.

  • Bringing Our Gifts: A Night of Reflection and Connection March Shabbat Dinner

    March 21, 2025

    Brooklyn

The month of Adar is about Joy, each of us carries something unique—gifts of wisdom, kindness, resilience, or creativity—that shape the spaces we inhabit. Just as the Israelites each brought their own offerings to help build the Mishkan, we, too, contribute our individual strengths to create something greater than ourselves.

Join us for a warm, soulful Shabbat dinner as we celebrate the gifts we each bring to our communities. Through conversation, reflection, and shared stories, we’ll explore how our unique contributions help build spaces of belonging, healing, and holiness. Whether you come to share or simply to be present, your presence is a gift, and there’s a place for you at our table.

  • ANSWERING THE CALL: BROOKLYN JANUARY SHABBAT DINNER

    January, 1/10/25
    Brooklyn, 11238

Life often asks us to pause and truly listen—not just to the noise around us, but to the quiet callings of our own hearts. Let’s be honest…. that is easier said than done! In recovery, this listening becomes an art, a practice, and a path to taking action toward who we are meant to be. We think the best way to do that is in community.

Join us for our first Shabbat dinner of the new year—a cozy and soulful evening where we’ll explore the idea of vocation as a calling we hear, rather than a goal we chase. Together, we’ll reflect on the ways we tune in to the deeper truths of our lives and share moments that have shaped our journeys.

  • ALIGNMENT: BROOKLYN SHABBAT DINNER

    Friday, 11/22/24
    Brooklyn, 11238

Sometimes in life, we have the opportunity to realign with our core values, much like finding our way back after losing direction. In these moments, our tradition offers a space to reflect, reconnect, and embrace the power of recovery, not alone, but in community.

Join us for a warm, fun, and uplifting Shabbat dinner. We'll share stories of rediscovery—times when we've returned to our values and the steps we took along the way. Whether you're looking to meet new friends or prefer the comfort of a familiar face, we’ll save you a seat.

  • SEASONS IN TIME: BROOKLYN SHABBAT DINNER

    Friday, 7/26/24
    Brooklyn, 11238

This part of the year exists as a liminal space - it’s after the kickoff of summer, bright and cheery, and on the precipice of our transition into fall and High Holiday Season. In particular, Jewish tradition focuses on the concept of ‘time’ and how we make meaning of it - how we use it to grow closer to ourselves, each other, and a higher power.

Join us for a special community-wide Shabbat Dinner as we come together to celebrate and reflect on our journeys in recovery. This evening will be dedicated to understanding the significance of time and how we use it to grow closer to ourselves, each other, and a higher power.

  • TOGETHER IN THE WILDERNESS: BROOKLYN SHABBAT DINNER

    Friday, 6/14/24
    Brooklyn, 11238

Sometimes life can feel a bit like wandering in the wilderness (sort of like our ancestors, if you will). In these moments, we like to remember that our tradition gives us a powerful spiritual technology - taking a pause from the chaos of life, and doing so in community.

Join us for a radically welcoming, completely delicious, and soulful Shabbat dinner. We'll share some moments of 'wandering' - times when we've navigated that experience and how we got through. Plus, we'll make sure that we help you meet new friends if you're willing or save a seat if you'd like to bring a plus one.
