Letting the waters part
Passover is the story of moving from constriction to expansion. From Mitzrayim, the narrow place, into open space. It is a journey through water, through uncertainty, through the unknown, toward freedom.
On March 26, we gather for a Passover experience rooted in creativity, breath, and gentle presence through the art of Suminagashi. Suminagashi means “floating ink.” Ink rests on the surface of water. It spreads, shifts, and forms delicate rings and waves before being transferred onto paper. Nothing is forced. Nothing is controlled. The artist guides with breath, with patience, with attention, and the water responds. There is something deeply Passover about that.
The splitting of the sea was not only about escape. It was about stepping into moving water and trusting that a path would open. In addiction and recovery, we know what it feels like to stand at the edge of our own sea. To leave behind what is familiar, even when it is painful. To walk forward without certainty. Recovery asks us to loosen our grip. To allow space for something new to form.
Suminagashi mirrors that process. The ink does not fight the water. It floats. It expands. It becomes something beautiful through surrender and flow. We will begin with a short meditation and then simply play with what ink will do on water and paper. No perfection. No performance. Just presence.
This Gather experience is held by a gentle, spacious artist who creates room for each person to explore at their own pace. As we move toward Passover, this is an invitation to soften. To breathe. To remember that freedom is not only a destination. It is a practice.
At 14Y Selah, we believe addiction recovery is a journey from constriction toward possibility. Like the sea, healing does not always move in straight lines. It ripples. It widens. It surprises us. Join us to float ink on water, to notice what unfolds, and to step, together, a little closer to freedom.
